Accommodations Policy @ MMI

 

Through our Accommodations Policy, MMI supports and complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Michigan Persons with Disabilities Civil Rights Act. Applicants or employees who wish to request accommodation under disability laws should contact the Human Resource Department for information.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission defines a qualified individual with a disability as “a person with a disability who satisfies the requisite skill, experience, education and other job-related requirements of the employment position such individual holds or desires, and who, with or without reasonable accommodation, can perform the essential functions of the position”.


Accommodation in Interviewing

MMI will make accommodations for qualified applicants to participate in the interview process. Requests for accommodation may be made to the Human Resource Department either verbally, in writing, through e-mail or through an authorized advocate. Such accommodations include but are not limited to:

     •  Assistance in completing the application
     •  Holding interviews in accessible MMI locations
     •  Hiring American Sign Language interpreters

Providing a proctor to read the situational work assignment to an applicant who cannot read and then tape recording the applicant’s response.


Reasonable Accommodation in Employment

Job descriptions at MMI list essential functions and, where applicable, also list the category of physical work as described in the Dictionary of Occupational Titles. If a qualified applicant or employee is unable to fulfill the essential functions of his/her position due to a disability, the employee may request accommodation by completing the Accommodation Request form and submitting it with a completed Physician’s Statement of Disabling Condition.

Under the Michigan Persons with Disabilities Civil Rights Act, an employee needing accommodation for employment must notify the employer, in writing, of the need for such accommodation within 182 days after the individual knew or should have known that such accommodation was needed.
