MMI COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS

Community Connections is our leisure and volunteer-based program that gives the people receiving services the ability to participate in a variety of activities in and around their surrounding communities.

Activities are chosen based on the preferences of the person with feedback given on behalf of those who can’t communicate in the traditional sense. Every effort is made to integrate individuals into activities where there is community involvement from those outside of MMI’s program. We do offer a few activities at MMI’s facilities. Community Connections provides higher staffing to meet the needs of individuals with very specialized requests.

Currently, the following activities are being offered:

Art Program
Yoga Gardening
Cooking
Shopping
Walking
Bowling
Movie
Music
Karaoke
Scrapbooking
Crafts
Community Awareness
Bingo
Image Enhancement
Parks Recreational
Sports
Knitting
Personal Safety & Fitness
Goodwill (Volunteer)
Red Cross Food Pantry (Volunteer)
Free Methodist Church Bulletins (Volunteer)
Commission on Aging Birdfeeders (Volunteer)
Commission on Aging Meals on Wheels (Volunteer)

Additionally, Community Connections provides Sensory Integration Training in a specially equipped environment that addresses sensory integration needs identified through each person centered plan. This includes the implementation of programs developed by an occupational therapist and/or physical therapist.

Examples of what you might see in this area are therapeutic positioning, range of motion exercises as well as other sensory input activities. This service is provided in an environment with a staff to person served ratio not to exceed one to six.
